The Wyandotte marching band will play on the field along with Kid Rock at halftime of the Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans game.
Their on-field performance might only last for 2 1/2 minutes, but you'd guess it was 2 1/2 hours by the level of excitement that's in the air. Members of the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs practiced alongside Kid Rock on Wednesday in preparation for their national TV appearance during halftime of the Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions game at Ford Field. The Roosevelt High School marching band is the only marching band picked to perform during the halftime show, which will feature about 700 total performers. Of those, 126 will be Downriver high school students. Roosevelt has a crew of 108 students, with an additional 18 students coming from the Trenton High School marching band. "It’s a thrill with so many people being excited for us," Mark D’…

The Wyandotte marching band will play on the field at halftime of the Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans game.
The news keeps getting more exciting for the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs. Earlier in the week, the Wyandotte Roosevelt marching band was invited to play the halftime show of the traditional Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions game at Ford Field. On Friday, the Detroit Lions announced the national recording artist that the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs would be playing backup to -- Michigan's own Kid Rock. The halftime event will feature a live performance of Kid Rock’s new song, “Detroit, Michigan,” a feature track from his new album “Rebel Soul,” which will be released Nov. 19. The song pays homage to several of Detroit’s music greats, including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Bob Seger and Eminem in addition to icons like Henry Ford and Rosa Parks. (…

That was my fear, as well..... but... instead, we got plenty of shots of the stars of the show and only a 3 second shot of the marching band. As a parent of a band member (our 3rd year now), I have to say that it was very disappointing that the only exposure they got was a fleeting glimpse.................   more ›
The Wyandotte Roosevelt marching band will play on the field at halftime of the Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans game, backing up a national recording artist and a special guest.
The Wyandotte Roosevelt marching band has been invited to play the halftime show of the traditional Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions game at Ford Field. The Wyandotte Marching Chiefs will be playing on the field at halftime, backing up a national recording artist and another special guest, said Mark D’Angelo, who is Roosevelt’s instrumental music director. As of right now, Wyandotte is the only marching band invited, he said. D’Angelo said he is not allowed to release the name of the national recording artist, or the special guest. Last year the band Nickelback performed at the Ford Field show. Representatives from the California-based company producing the show contacted D’Angelo and asked the band to perform. D’Angelo said he did not …

The Detroit Lions face a big task when the 10-0 Green Bay Packers visit Ford Field on Thanksgiving.
Can the Lions defeat the unbeaten Packers? That’s the question heading into Thanksgiving, when the defending Super Bowl champion and 10-0 Green Bay Packers visit Ford Field to take on the hometown Detroit Lions. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, and the game will be televised on Fox. While locals sports fans long have viewed the Thanksgiving game with pride, even when the Lions have struggled, this year’s Turkey Day matchup figures to draw national attention because both teams are surging. The Lions and the Packers enter the game with a combined record of 17-3, and Sports Illustrated’s Peter King says this is the best Detroit Thanksgiving game since 1962. In addition, the Lions are one of the few remaining challenges as the Packers look …

The Lions can win if the coaching staff lets Stafford roll out and use his legs a LITTLE more, (like he did in the 2nd half vs. the Panthers) instead of curling into the fetal position any time he feels pressure. He will be a top shelf Q.B. sooner rather then later.   more ›
Rock band's scheduled appearance has drawn the ire of Detroit Lions' fans.
Nickelback? Step back! In the past, Detroit Lions fans have had plenty to complain about on the field, from Scott Mitchell and Joey Harrington to Bobby Ross and Marty Mornhinweg. But now that quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson have helped the Lions to a 6-2 start this season, Lions fans have a new complaint: the band on the field at halftime for this year’s Thanksgiving Day showdown against the Green Bay Packers. Dennis Guttman, a student at the University of Michigan, has started a petition to ask the Lions to drop Nickelback from the rock band’s scheduled appearance at the Nov. 24 game. The petition rails against the group, asking "Does anyone even like Nickelback?" One commenter, Eva Blankinship, said she …
