The news keeps getting more exciting for the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs. Earlier in the week, the Wyandotte Roosevelt marching band was invited to play the halftime show of the traditional Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions game at Ford Field. On Friday, the Detroit Lions announced the national recording artist that the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs would be playing backup to -- Michigan's own Kid Rock. The halftime event will feature a live performance of Kid Rock’s new song, “Detroit, Michigan,” a feature track from his new album “Rebel Soul,” which will be released Nov. 19. The song pays homage to several of Detroit’s music greats, including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Bob Seger and Eminem in addition to icons like Henry Ford and Rosa Parks. (…

The Wyandotte Roosevelt marching band has been invited to play the halftime show of the traditional Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions game at Ford Field. The Wyandotte Marching Chiefs will be playing on the field at halftime, backing up a national recording artist and another special guest, said Mark D’Angelo, who is Roosevelt’s instrumental music director. As of right now, Wyandotte is the only marching band invited, he said. D’Angelo said he is not allowed to release the name of the national recording artist, or the special guest. It’s Band Sweetheart spirit week at Roosevelt High School as the 250 students in the instrumental music program — with 120 in marching band — continue the 59-year Sweet Week tradition. Former Band Director Kenneth Hauer began Band Sweetheart 59 years ago. That was my fear, as well..... but... instead, we got plenty of shots of the stars of the show and only a 3 second shot of the marching band. As a parent of a band member (our 3rd year now), I have to say that it was very disappointing that the only exposure they got was a fleeting glimpse.................   more ›
