Wyandotte City Offices Will Be Closed Monday, Tuesday

City offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday in observance of the New Year's holiday.

City offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday in observance of New Year's.  They will reopen Wednesday with normal business hours.  Trash collection will also resume Wednesday, after taking Tuesday off. There will be a one-day delay next week in trash collection due to the holiday. Monday's City Council meeting also has been postponed. The next meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 on the second floor of the old City Hall.

Stores Have Varied Return Policies For Those Unwanted Gifts

Stores will be swamped with returns in the days following Christmas.

Christmas is over and traffic at the stores will die down, right? Wrong. Now it's time for all of those unwanted holiday gifts to get returned. To make your life a little bit easier, here are the return policies for some of the area's largest big box retailers: Macy's Macy's items can be returned at any location. If you have a voucher, you can return items in original form at any time. Jews, Muslims Volunteer on Christmas to Give Christians a Break

This year's Mitzvah Day is so popular that there is a wait list for volunteers.

Mitzvah Day is when hundreds of volunteers from metro Detroit pitch in to make Christmas a brighter day for their neighbors and community members. Organized by the Jewish Community Relations Council, Mitzvah Day started about 20 years ago, said co-chair Micki Grossman of Farmington Hills.  She said it started with the idea of volunteering around the community every month at places like nursing homes and hospitals. "Then someone came up with the idea that on Christmas Day, as Jewish people, we don't have anything to do," said Grossman, who has been co-chair of Mitzvah Day for six or seven years and before that a volunteer and site coordinator. Mitzvah literally means commandment, so volunteers see this as a way to fulfill their obligation …

Patch Readers Adopt 45 Children for the Holidays

More than 50 bags of toys, clothing and canned goods were delivered Friday to the Salvation Army in Wyandotte.

Thanks to our generous readers, Wyandotte Patch was able to deliver more than 50 bags of toys, clothing and canned goods to the Salvation Army on Friday. Patch readers sponsored 45 children through the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program, which connects needy Downriver families with presents for children ages newborn to 14. Several readers adopted multiple children. Tongue's Protein Bar and Chill Lounge served as the official drop-off point for the volunteer drive.
