Decorating your home for the holiday? Show us your favorite piece!
When we decorate our home for the holidays, I remind my family of the story around each decoration. I was single and had just moved into my own apartment at the time. I had a little Charlie Brown tree and not much to put on it. The little crochet dove she gave me has a musical box in in the back that plays a whiney (albeit not so loudly today) It's A Small World. Another good one is the little house ornament that represented the year we bought our first home in Pennsylvania. We had bought a townhouse and the ornament looked like our home. At the time I worked across from the Moravian …

The Wyandotte Patch events calendar is a great place for local churches to post dates and times for special and regular services.
Between remembering to turn off the Christmas lights before bed and which sweater to get little Johnny, there are infinite things to remember during the holidays. Adding a church service on Patch is easy to do. Just click on the Events tab at the top of the page, and then click on Add an Event. It's that simple! We’ve launched our annual Deck the House Contest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America—the best “decked” house in the country—the one home so spectacularly decorated that everyone in town jokes your holiday decorations could rival Rockefeller Center’s. If this sounds like your house, upload a photo or video of your home to http://deckthehouse.patch.com/contest/wyandotte. Entries will be accepted through Dec. 16. Only residents of Patch towns are eligible to enter. We’ll select 24 regional finalists, and from them, pick one grand prize winner. Celebrate the Festival of Lights with fun events and delicious recipes.
This year, Hanukkah begins on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8, and ends a week later on Sunday, Dec. 16. According to Chabad.org, Hanukkah starts on the Hebrew calendar date of 25 Kislev and lasts for eight days. For those of us who aren't attuned to the Jewish calendar, that translates to sundown on Saturday, Dec. 8. Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, commemorates the story of the Maccabean Revolt against Syrian rulers in present day Israel 2,300 years ago. The Maccabees wanted to rededicate Jerusalem's main temple but had only enough oil to kindle the Eternal Light for one day. The oil lasted for eight days, according to the story, and the holiday of Hanukkah was born. Today, Jews generally celebrate by gathering together …

The name "Goodfellows" doesn't do justice to their generosity. They helped my family way back in the 1950s and continue helping families today. They are my favorite charity for that very reason. Whenever you see them on the street corners in the cold, snow or rain please don't ignore them. All the money they collect is for the benefit of kids in our city. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EACH AND EVERY …   more ›
