In February teenager Jacob Marion was struck by a train and critically injured. Since May, Jacob, who was a freshman at Wyandotte Roosevelt at the time, has been out of the hospital and living at home with his mother, Monica Marion. The injuries he suffered in February included: severe head trauma, two broken vertebrae in his neck, a punctured lung, a lacerated liver, a fractured pelvis and the loss of his right hand. Currently, those injuries still keeping him from speaking or lifting his head by himself, said his sister Nicole Lyons, and he is still forced to have a feeding tube inside his body. The boy, 16, was airlifted to Children’s Hospital of Michigan, where he's listed in good condition.
A 16-year-old Wyandotte boy who was lying on a set of railroad tracks near Vinewood was struck by a train late Friday. The Roosevelt High School sophomore was airlifted to Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Mayor Joseph Peterson said. A hospital spokeswoman said the teen was listed in good condition as of Saturday afternoon. The mayor said police are investigating the matter as a suicide attempt. “The (train) engineer saw the kid laying across the tracks and sounded his horn,” Peterson said. “He was conscious and talking to officers, so that’s a good sign.” School Superintendent Carla Harting said counselors will be on hand when students return to classes on Monday. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time," she …

Kay Hendershot will blog on Wyandotte Patch to share information on Jacob Marion's progress.
Like many others, Kay Hendershot anxiously awaits any update on the condition of Jacob Marion, the 14-year-old Wyandotte boy struck by a train Feb. 28. Unlike most others, however, she gets those updates from watching his improvements inside his room at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. As a longtime friend of the family, Hendershot said she's been touched by the outpouring of support from the community and is anxious to share "up-to-date, accurate information on his condition and progress." To do that, she's begun blogging on Wyandotte Patch. The Team Jacob Chronicles, which begin with her first post today, can be read here.
