Wyandotte Patch stopped into the River's Edge Gallery to find out what's the most interesting piece on display.
The most interesting piece at Wyandotte's River's Edge Gallery showcases, perhaps, Detroit's most famous musician — Kid Rock. The painting, High Rock, by Downriver native Bill Morrison, depicts Kid Rock in dark sunglasses and dark clothes beneath a bottle cap marked, "High Rock Dry." Gallery director Jeremy Hansen selected the painting as the most interesting in the gallery because of the piece's pop-culture representation and for the artist who painted the image. Morrison was born in Lincoln Park and has worked on several projects seen by people all over the world including dozens of movie posters for Walt Disney Pictures animated films, according to the River's Edge website. Morrison painted movie posters for Disney hits like Bambi, …

Chelsea Menswear is donating a portion of Kid Rock's Made-in-Detroit brand sales to the Roosevelt High School Music Department.
Chelsea Menswear will donate 10 percent of Made-in-Detroit brand sales through the end of the year to the Roosevelt High School Music Department. Made-in-Detroit, owned by Kid Rock, is known for making donations to local charities. Kid Rock recently donated money to the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs after they performed with him on Thanksgiving day for the Lion's halftime show. The band incurred $2,400 in transportation costs getting to and from rehearsals, leading up to the big day. When Kid Rock learned about the money the band needed, he sent a letter and a $2,500 check. Peter Rose, owner of Chelsea Menswear, said the store owners and employees were moved by Kid Rock's generosity. "We were inspired by Kid Rock paying for their …

Thank you to Wyandotte Patch for covering our recent story of the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs performance with Kid Rock in the United Way/ Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day Halftime Show. Because of your recent article, Kid Rock took notice and has paid off all of our band's expenses related to this performance. Overall, the experience of performing in front of 70,000 people and on national TV is not something I will ever be able to provide for my students in the classroom or in a regular marching band season. It is a pretty awesome feeling to be a part of something that big and it is pretty indescribable for me to see the students rise to the occasion and perform at their very best. In a recent article we reported that we were going to invite…

The Michigan musician said he likes helping "people already doing good things."
Famed Michigan rock star Kid Rock took to his own website Friday afternoon to talk about the $2,500 donation he made earlier this week to the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs. "I would really like to change the mission statement too 'Helping those who believe in hard work and the American Dream in there time of need,'" he said. "i wanna focus on helping people who are already trying to help themselves ... people already doing good things who may be struggling a bit." The Roosevelt High School marching band was the sole band selected to perform along with Kid Rock during the Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions halftime show. With the halftime show being a surprise development and with the school district only providing busing for select preplanned …
The high school band incurred $2,400 in transportation costs getting to and from Ford Field.
Fresh off their Thanksgiving Day performance alongside Kid Rock during the Detroit Lions' halftime show, members of the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs were pretty excited to receive a letter from the rock star on Thursday. But there was more than a congratulatory note inside. There was a check for $2,500. With the halftime show being a surprise development and with the school district not having its own fleet of buses, the band incurred $2,400 in transportation costs getting to and from rehearsals, leading up to the big day. According to the letter from Kid Rock, he read about the band's financial hardship and wanted to help out. "I read the article in the Wyandotte Patch on the extra expenses you incurred getting back and forth to Ford Field …

The high school marching band performed alongside Kid Rock at Ford Field during the halftime show of the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving game.

The Wyandotte marching band will play on the field along with Kid Rock at halftime of the Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans game.
Their on-field performance might only last for 2 1/2 minutes, but you'd guess it was 2 1/2 hours by the level of excitement that's in the air. Members of the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs practiced alongside Kid Rock on Wednesday in preparation for their national TV appearance during halftime of the Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions game at Ford Field. The Roosevelt High School marching band is the only marching band picked to perform during the halftime show, which will feature about 700 total performers. Of those, 126 will be Downriver high school students. Roosevelt has a crew of 108 students, with an additional 18 students coming from the Trenton High School marching band. "It’s a thrill with so many people being excited for us," Mark D’…
