The new agency will oversee operations to connect veterans to services and benefits in Michigan.
Gov. Rick Snyder issued an executive order on Friday that will help to better connect eligible veterans with their benefits. Executive Order 2013-2 creates the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency within the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The governor announced the move during his annual State of the State address. “Michigan’s veterans earned and deserve the best possible support – and we need to make sure that they can get it,” Snyder said. “With our state’s recent accreditation by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and with a new agency solely dedicated to their needs, veterans will experience more efficient and effective delivery of services and support.” Michigan is home to more than 650,000 military veterans, …

"Swatting" is a crime in which a person uses the Internet to report a serious crime or medical emergency in progress using "spoofing" technology, so that the report appears to be originating from another address, according to Anna Heaton of the House Majority Communications department for the Michigan House of Representatives. The state Senate yesterday passed a new bill that would require school districts to implement anti-bullying policies. But the bill is drawing criticism from Democrats and the father of the victim after whom the bill was named. The critics say the bill creates a special exception for bullies who have "a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction," as well as neglecting to protect against bullying by students based on sexual orientation or gender identity, according to a story by the Huffington Post. Known as Matt's Safe School Law, the bill effectively bans harassment in schools and requires every district to have an anti-bullying policy. I have written Gov. Snyder before and contacted his office. I still to mdate have not rec'd VA benefits. Its been almost 31/2 yrs. My claim was expediated in April 2012 to no avail. Its in appeal remanded back to Det. and there it sits. Sander Levins office hasn't been able to get this claim thru. I'm almost 73 yrs of age and live in a cold damp basement.
