MDOT Launches Blog to Share, Chat With Metro Detroiters

#MetroMerge will allow residents and MDOT to interact on transportation issues.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has launched a new blog to allow residents to talk about transportation issues. The blog, #MetroMerge, is MDOT's hope to increase outreach to residents of MDOT's Metro Region, which includes Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and St. Clair counties. It can be read at www.michigan.gov/metromerge. MDOT already has a dedicated MDOT Metro Region Twitter site: www.twitter.com/MDOT_MetroDet. "To expand our social media footprint we have created an informal community page as a way to share information with you on all things transportation-related in the Metro Detroit Region," said Metro Region Engineer Tony Kratofil. Fort Street Project to Shift to Right Lanes This Week

Traffic will be moved onto the recently rebuilt left lanes in both directions from Goddard to Pennsylvania.

The second phase of the $40 million Fort Street reconstruction project is expected to get under way this week. Traffic will be shifted onto the recently rebuilt left lanes in both directions from Goddard to Pennsylvania. The change will allow workers to begin utility work under the two right lanes in both directions in advance of repaving, which is expected to begin in early fall. When the stretch from Goddard to Pennsylvania is completed in late fall, the project will then move in similar stages from Pennsylvania to Sibley. All work is set to be finished in the fall of 2013. When completed, the Michigan Department of Transportation project will have reconstructed four miles of Fort between Sibley and Goddard. The work spans five cities–…

Eureka Has Reopened at Fort in Wyandotte

One lane of traffic is now flowing in both directions.

Right on schedule, Eureka has reopened at Fort Street. The Michigan Department of Transportation said in January that the road closure would take about three months. On Tuesday evening, the barricades were removed, making way for one lane of traffic to flow in both directions. The median closure allowed MDOT workers to replace underground storm sewer pipes. The utility replacement is part of the ongoing $40 million investment project to reconstruct Fort between Sibley and Goddard roads. When Wyandotte Patch discovered on Friday that Eureka had reopened, we posted a message about it on Facebook. That post was the most popular item of the day, with a number of readers pleased with the news. Sharon Schwochow said: "I was very excited it was …
