Wyandotte Public Schools Cancels Classes for First Time on MLK Day
What do you think about the district celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a day off Monday?
For the first time, Wyandotte Public Schools closed Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. School Superintendent Carla Harting said the district has longed celebrated the day with classroom projects, but this is the first year that the district canceled classes. "We have always considered doing it, but it had to be worked out in our contracts," she said. "We felt it was an important holiday to celebrate with our students. Many parents do things to celebrate the day, so we wanted to give them a chance to spend it with their children."
