I cannot believe "Les Miserables" has had such a luke warm reception - six screens each showing this brilliant film roughly six showings a day plus all the Gold Class screenings were full all December and January. The film is absolutely fantastic - the music, the perfect cast, the voices, the attention to detail were incredible. Well done Tom Hooper!   more ›

FRIDAY: 'Yogi Bear' for Wyandotte's Flicks on Bricks

The movie will start at dusk on Friday, Aug. 24, at the corner of Elm and First streets.

Yogi Bear will be played at dusk Friday, Aug. 24, on the old Wyandotte Theatre lot at the corner of Elm and First streets as part of the city's free "Flicks on Bricks" outdoor movie series. There are three movies still planned for this year. All movies begin at dusk. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to be comfortable. Wyandotte Attorney Is at Center of Lawsuit Alleging Movie Theaters Charge Too Much for Refreshments

Joshua Thompson and his lawyer, Kerry Morgan, are suing AMC over high cost of Coke and candy.

Is there a problem when a drink and a tub of popcorn cost more at the local movie theater than the ticket price itself? Or, are customers who choose to buy snacks agreeing to the prices being charged every time they open up their wallets and voluntarily fork over the cash? Joshua Thompson is ready to let a judge decide. He and his Wyandotte attorney, Kerry Morgan, are suing the Livonia AMC theater after Thompson said he felt cheated out of being charged $8 for a Coke and box of candy in December. "He got tired of being taken advantage of," Morgan told the Detroit Free Press. "It's hard to justify prices that are three- and four-times higher than anywhere else." Thompson's lawsuit is seeking class-action status, whereas others who felt …

POLL: Which Best Picture Nominee Do You Hope Wins an Oscar Sunday?

Let's see if the favorite among readers winds up with the top Academy Award.

Favorite film opinions are as diverse as moviegoers, and this week is an ideal time to share your choice for which nominee deserves the Best Picture statue this weekend. We're interested in taste, not predictions. So click the movie you think should win, not necessarily which will snag the final Academy Award presented Sunday night. The Oscars show, hosted by Bill Crystal for a ninth time, starts at 8:30 p.m. on ABC after 90 minutes of red carpet arrival scenes outside the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. You’ve Got Photos: Mitch Ryder Rides into Wyandotte

Rock legend Mitch Ryder rolled into Wyandotte on Wednesday as part of the cast of POOKERLAND, the first feature film from Ring of Fire Entertainment.

Hollywood came to town Wednesday as the cast of POOKERLAND gathered in Wyandotte for a promotional photo shoot. Detroit rock icon Mitch Ryder and his wife Megan attended the shoot along with other local artists. Ryder and his wife will make an appearance in the film. Scott Galeski, a Wyandotte police detective turned writer and producer, and his brother, Daniel Galeski Jr., are the founders of Ring of Fire Entertainment. They have teamed up with brothers Brion and Eric Andrew Dodson of Captiv8 Productions to produce POOKERLAND, their first feature film. Wednesday's photo shoot took place in the loft space above Barry N Company Designs amidst a flurry of media attention. Reporters from several print and television news sources were on hand …

Downriver Theaters Prepare for Harry Potter Premiere

There are plenty of midnight premiere options for the final installment of the series on Friday.

The Harry Potter film franchise will finally come to a close on Friday, as the series’ eighth installment will feature the final showdown between Harry and his arch-nemesis, Lord Voldemort. Local Potter fans will have a slew of premiere options come midnight Thursday, as several Downriver theaters are gearing up to give viewers the earliest possible look at Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows–Part 2. The list is headlined by MJR Southgate Digital Cinema 20, which has seven midnight shows–including two in 3-D–scheduled for Thursday night. Potter madness also will be had at Emagine Woodhaven.
