Gov. Snyder Orders Flags Lowered for 70th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor

It was 70 years ago today that a surprise attack on U.S. Navy and Army installations at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii prompted U.S. entry into World War II.

Seventy years later, Dec. 7 remains, as President Franklin D. Roosevelt christened it, "a date which will live in infamy." By order of Gov. Rick Snyder, U.S. flags throughout Michigan will be lowered to half-staff today in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941. Though few living today remember how a beautiful Sunday morning in the Hawaiian islands ended in a deadly act of war, the attack on Pearl Harbor is one which will never be forgotten–dulled by the passing of time or romanticized by the film industry perhaps, but never forgotten. Remembering Pearl Harbor is really remembering all the men and women who served in World War II at home and overseas. Their sacrifices for our freedom should never and can never be forgotten.
