Wyandotte's Festive Fridays Feature Music, Reindeer

This week's event includes Arts and Scraps, where children can make free holiday-themed crafts.

The city that's turned Third Friday into an event known by many around is expanding that reach again this year during December. Festive Fridays will feature music and live reindeer in downtown Wyandotte every Friday evening through Christmas. (Reindeer will not be on hand Dec. 7.) This week's Festive Fridays event includes a special visit from Arts and Scraps. Children will be able to make free holiday-themed crafts inside River's Edge Gallery. Arts and Scraps will have additional items available for purchase, as well. The reindeer will be set up in front of the old City Hall. Carolers and a strolling musician will appear up and down Biddle. Those activities are set for 6 to 8 p.m. Several businesses also offer goodies inside their …

PHOTOS: Wyandotte Shoppers Score Savings During Small Business Saturday

About 30 Wyandotte businesses offered sales and discounts during the nationwide celebration.

Dozens of Wyandotte businesses opened their doors with discounts and giveaways on Saturday in honor of the nationwide Small Business Saturday campaign. "Small Business Saturday is the day we celebrate the Shop Small movement to drive shoppers to local merchants across the U.S.," the project's Facebook page says. The Wyandotte Downtown Development Authority and the Wyandotte Business Association are partnering to promote shopping at Wyandotte’s independently owned and operated businesses this holiday season. To encourage downtown shopping on Saturday, there were free rides on the trolley and the horse and carriage. Live reindeer were on hand, along with strolling musicians and carolers. The Wyandotte Downtown Development Authority and the Wyandotte Business Association are partnering to promote shopping at Wyandotte’s independently owned shops this holiday season.

Without many big box stores in the city to celebrate Black Friday, you likely won't see any long lines outside any Wyandotte businesses on Thursday night or Friday morning. But come Saturday morning, local merchants will be abuzz for Small Business Saturday, which encourages holiday shoppers to shop local by patronizing small brick and mortar businesses.
