The newly elected Wyandotte city officials were sworn into office Monday night. A packed inauguration ceremony was held at Yack Arena. Mayor Joseph Peterson, City Clerk William Griggs, City Treasurer Todd Browning and City Assessor Thomas Woodruff were inaugurated, along with the six-member City Council — Daniel Galeski, Ted Miciura Jr., Leonard Sabuda, Don Schultz, Lawrence Stec and Sheri Sutherby-Fricke. The newly elected Wyandotte city officials will take office Monday night. An inauguration ceremony is set for 7 p.m. at Yack Arena. The public is invited. Set to be sworn in are Mayor Joseph Peterson, City Clerk William Griggs, City Treasurer Todd Browning and City Assessor Thomas Woodruff. The six-member City Council — Daniel Galeski, Ted Miciura Jr., Leonard Sabuda, Don Schultz, Lawrence Stec and Sheri Sutherby-Fricke — also will be administered oaths of office. All officials will serve for four years.

Kevin VanBoxell lost a seat on the Wyandotte City Council by seven votes.
Kevin VanBoxell lost a bid for the Wyandotte City Council by seven votes in Tuesday's election and has decided not to challenge the results, City Clerk William Griggs said. "He has indicated to me that he will not be requesting a recount," Griggs said Wednesday afternoon. VanBoxell couldn't be reached for immediate comment. Ten people ran for six seats on the council. Ted Miciura Jr. came in sixth place with 1,242 votes, narrowly beating VanBoxell, who received 1,235 votes. As standard procedure, a local canvassing board met Wednesday morning to certify Tuesday night's election results. The certification was done with no discrepancies found, leading the numbers to stay as they were announced Tuesday night, Griggs said. Read the full story …

A recount could be requested as seven votes separate a winning candidate from a losing candidate in the hotly contested City Council race.
Wyandotte voters have returned four incumbent City Council candidates to their seats for another four years, while also giving the nod to two newcomers. Council incumbents Daniel Galeski, Leonard Sabuda, Lawrence Stec and Sheri Sutherby-Fricke came out successful in Tuesday's election, along with Don Schultz and Ted Miciura Jr. "I don’t even have words," said an excited Schultz minutes after learning he had won. "I just thank everyone in this city for trusting in me and for supporting me. I want to help move this city forward in the positive direction it’s going." In the other contested race, Thomas Woodruff beat out his challenger, Jerry Kupser, to become Wyandotte's new city assessor. Incumbent Colleen Keehn did not seek re-election. …
