National Initiative Aims to Get Unwanted Prescription Drugs out of Wyandotte Residents' Medicine Cabinets

Unwanted drugs can be turned in from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 at the Wyandotte Police Department.

Unwanted prescription drugs can be turned in legally and safely through a program jointly sponsored by the city of Wyandotte and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27, people can drop off expired and/or unused prescription drugs at the Wyandotte Police Department. The service is free and anonymous — no questions asked. The National Take Back Initiative is aimed at preventing pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous drugs. More than 7 million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the DEA. About 2,500 teens use prescription drugs each day to get high for the first time, the DEA said. Spring Time Brings Spring Crime: Flower Pots Stolen in Wyandotte

A 44-year-old Wyandotte woman reported her flower pots stolen at about 9:15 p.m. in the 500 block of Maple. The woman said that an unkown female stole her flower pots located on the front sidewalk, according to a Wyandotte police report. She said she was upstairs in her home when she heard a car pull up and when she looked out a window she saw a small black car parked in front of her home. She then saw a white woman with a slim build and shoulder-length blonde hair carrying something to her car and putting it in the front seat. Wyandotte Officer Honored With President's Call to Service Award

Wyandotte police detective Scott Galeski has an estimated 7,000 hours of community service with the City of Wyandotte.

Wyandotte police detective Scott Galeski was presented with the President's Call to Service Award Monday at the regularly scheduled Wyandotte City Council meeting. Galeski, 48, of Wyandotte, has an estimated 7,000 hours of community service in the City of Wyandotte, which far exceeds the minimum of 4,000 hours required to receive the award. Galeski long-time friend, Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Kowalske, surprised him with the award and highlighted some of the milestones in his career and personal life. "I had no idea," Galeski said. "I've had a wonderful career and the kids are the most important." Wyandotte Woman Offers $5,000 Reward for Missing Purse

Anyone with knowledge of the location of a black Chanel purse should contact the Wyandotte Police Department 734-324-4405.

A Wyandotte woman offered a $5,000 reward Monday for the return of a missing purse. The woman's black Chanel purse with silver trim was last seen in a Wyandotte Henry Ford Hospital parking lot near Biddle Avenue Tuesday. She said the purse likely fell out of her vehicle moments before she drove away from the parking lot. When the woman returned to the parking lot, the purse could not be found. The woman said the purse contains jewelry that is of significant sentimental value and encourages anyone with knowledge of where she can find the purse to please contact the Wyandotte Police Department 734-324-4405. The woman, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the reward would be paid "no questions asked."

Scuffle at Shoppers Valley in Wyandotte Ends in Arrest

Wyandotte police arrested a 48-year-old man after he attempted to steal a bottle of tequila at about 3:40 p.m. March 14 at Shoppers Valley Market. Police said the man caused a scuffle at a cash register conveyor with the store owner and 3-4 patrons. During the scuffle a plastic display case was shattered and the man grabbed a shard of plastic and threatened to stab the owner. The area were the scuffle took place was in "complete disarray with items and groceries strewn all over the floor," according to a Wyandotte police report. An officer activated a taser and the man stopped resisting and the taser was deactivated. The man was arrested and transported to the Wyandotte Police Department without incident. No one was injured in the scuffle…

Wyandotte Police Taser Man After High-Speed Chase

A Lincoln Park man is in police custody after he lead Wyandotte police on a high-speed chase ending in a crash with a Southgate police patrol car on Eureka near I-75 in Taylor at about 10 p.m. March 15. Police said the 33-year-old man was driving erratically on Eureka near Prush's Bar, when an officer attempted to get him to pull over. The man refused to stop his vehicle and accelerated at speeds up to 50 mph in zones marked as low as 25 mph. The man ran several stop signs and traffic lights, and caused a crash at Dix-Toledo and Eureka while attempting to elude police, according to a Wyandotte police report. Wyandotte Mother Found Not Guilty in Scalding Case

Erica Anne Bohn was acquitted of second-degree child abuse charges during a bench trial.

A Wyandotte mother was found not guilty for her alleged role in forcing her two young children to stand in steaming hot water for so long that the youngsters' feet were severely burned. Erica Anne Bohn, 25, was charged with two counts of second-degree child abuse. After a March 1 bench trial, Wayne County Circuit Judge Richard Skutt found Bohn not guilty. Mark Bernardi, a spokesman for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, said on Friday that his office had no comment on the acquittal. Bohn's boyfriend and the father of the two children, Brandon Edward Soules, 29, also was charged in the case. He pleaded guilty to two felony counts of second-degree child abuse and was sentenced Jan. 30 to one year in jail and three years probation.    Like…

Rash of Thefts at Wyandotte Businesses Continue Despite Recent Arrests

In the past two weeks, parts for four air conditioner units have been stolen out of Wyandotte buildings, including some businesses.

Wyandotte police arrested two men after the men attempted to steal parts for an air conditioner unit located on the roof of the former Shots Up Sports Bar and Grill at about 9 a.m. Feb. 27, according to a Wyandotte police report. Police said they arrested the two men after receiving a report about a man on the roof of the vacant building. Police located the men driving south on Biddle near the vacant building with about six feet of copper tubing, a condenser and refrigeration liquid indicator, pliers, vice grips and a flashlight. Wayne County to Erect Memorial for Fallen First Responders

A police officer with Wyandotte ties who was killed in 1922 will be remembered on the monument.

A memorial to be erected this year will honor fallen first responders from fire and police departments across Wayne County. An unveiling was held Tuesday at Warren Valley Banquet Center in Dearborn Heights, where Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano joined mayors, as well as fire and police personnel, for the announcement. “This memorial will stand as a beautiful tribute to honor and remember those brave men and women, whom, while on-duty for a Wayne County Community, selflessly made the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve us all,” Ficano said. Wyandotte Father Gets Jail Time for Scalding Children

Brandon Edward Soules, 29, was sentenced Wednesday to one year in jail on child abuse charges.

A Wyandotte father was sentenced to one year in jail and three years probation for his role in forcing his two young children to stand in steaming hot water for so long that the youngsters' feet were severely burned. Brandon Edward Soules, 29, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of second-degree child abuse and was sentenced Wednesday.  Soules' attorney, Romi Mezy, said his client is very remorseful over what occurred. "He has a severe substance abuse problem," Mezy said. "From his point of view, it was not an intentional act. He was under the influence at the time and didn't realize what was happening. ...
