Wyandotte Roosevelt Students Make First Film, Win Best Of Show at Film Festival in Detroit

A district-wide anti-bullying campaign inspired Wyandotte Roosevelt High School students Carley Burgess and Spencer Genrich to create a thought-provoking and award winning film.

Two Wyandotte Roosevelt High School seniors are heading to Detroit this week to collect an award from the Michigan Student Film and Video Festival. Carley Burgess and Spencer Genrich won best of show with their first attempt at film making--a documentary about bullying. Burgess and Genrich created the film to highlight an anti-bullying campaign sponsored by the high school called Stand Up to Bullying. "We wanted to enhance the campaign and make students stand up and take notice," Genrich said. In the film, "Stand Up to Bullying," the two video production students tackle the subject of bullying in schools by depicting different bullying scenarios, which lead to a common resolution. This is the first year of the video production class at …

Who Are Wyandotte Roosevelt's Top 10 Seniors?

The top 10 seniors at Wyandotte's Roosevelt High School were announced at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting.

Who makes up the top 10 of the 2013 graduating class of Wyandotte's Roosevelt High School? That's easy, except for the fact that it's actually 13 students. Due to ties in rank and grade point average, this year's top 10 had to be expanded a little, but school officials were fine with that. Roosevelt's valedictorian is top-ranked Tyler Green and salutatorian is Emily Taylor who is ranked second in the class of 2013. Look for profiles including photos and short biographies on each student in Roosevelt's top ten coming up on Wyandotte Patch. Here's a list of the students with class rank and grade point average as announced at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting:

More than 100 students and adults from Wyandotte's Roosevelt High School spent two days and nights in Chicago to perform in the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

As the Chicago River turned as green as shamrocks, Wyandotte Roosevelt High School's Marching Chiefs stood in the frigid Chicago wind for three hours Saturday waiting for a chance to march in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. Nearly 100 students from Roosevelt's instrumental music department made the three-day trip to participate in the parade and the Windy City Classic music festival, which was hosted in the Dominican University auditorium in River Forest, IL. Mark D'Angelo, director of instrumental music at Roosevelt, said he was excited to take the band to perform in different cities and events. "They always rise to the occasion and make us all proud," D'Angelo said. D'Angelo added the students showed grit by powering through cold …

Students and staff wished 25-year volunteer Walter Miller farewell and good luck in his retirement Friday.

With a crowd of students and staff cheering him on, Walter Miller walked out of Wyandotte's Roosevelt High School for the last time Friday to begin his retirement. Much like the hundreds of football games the Wyandotte native had attended over the past 25 years as the team manager, the cheering of the crowd Friday afternoon was on par with the cheers for Miller's beloved Bears. "I love these kids," Miller said. "And these kids love me." Miller has spent nearly every day of his life, even before he graduated from Roosevelt in 1991, volunteering his time in any capacity necessary. In addition to team manager for the varsity football team, Miller has served as president of the high school basketball teams. Principal Tom Kell said Miller's …
