Volunteers are hoping to raise $25,000 to have the monument installed by Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
A Friday bake sale at Bishop Co-Op Senior Apartments helped volunteers surpass the $10,000 collection mark for the Wyandotte Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The cookies, brownies, pies and cakes brought in $908, bringing the total donations collected so far to $10,113, Mayor Joseph Peterson said. He praised Marge Roberts, who lives at the senior high-rise and coordinated the bake sale. Several other fundraisers and sales of paver bricks have brought in the rest of the money. Tom Woodruff, owner of Downriver Stone Design, is spearheading the project on behalf of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He and his wife, Dianne, presented the city with a piece of artwork to display at City Hall until the permanent monument is created and installed at the …

Being part of the Vietnam Veterans committee was a very special feeling for me. I really felt we were bringing our brothers back to rest at home. I am also very proud how all of us worked together like a team and accomplished what we wanted to do. Thank you to all the other committee members, WE DID IT!!! Ken Holezki Vietnam 1969-1970.
