Sakura studied journalism at Michigan State and worked for the Manistee News Advocate in northern Michigan. She is currently a freelance copy editor and works in her daughter's school library. Born in Okinawa, Japan, and raised in the Detroit area, Sakura first heard of Downriver when her husband got a job as an English teacher here. Wyandotte has turned out to be a very happy discovery for everyone involved, including Sakura's 6-year-old daughter, who says she will never leave. Sakura is thrilled to have an opportunity to help showcase this area in Patch.
