Online Greeting Card Company Offers Convenience, Variety and Creativity

Wyandotte businesswoman Barbara Duran has been a Send Out Cards distributor for five years.

Barbara Duran sends out hundreds of greeting cards and never has to visit a store or a post office.

Five years ago, Duran became an independent distributor for Send Out Cards and works from her Wyandotte home.

Send Out Cards is an online business that gives people a chance to send real, personalized greeting cards from the comfort of home. With just a few clicks of the mouse, cards for birthdays, anniversaries or nearly anything else can be sent to family, friends or business associates across the nation.

The company allows Duran to branch off her own and earn income from orders that are placed by people using her site.

“Send Out Cards is a combination of online technology … with traditional greeting card sending,” Duran said. “It’s completely online, but real cards go out in the mail.”

To first create cards on the site, users pick from either one of the 15,000 layout styles available or create one from scratch. There are four sizes to choose from, which are postcard, greeting card, three-panel or the 9 inches by 12 inches “big card.”

The card sender uses the site’s interface to type personal messages inside the card, using one of the several fonts available. For an additional cost, the company can create a personalized handwriting font, allowing card messages and signatures to appear in the user’s own handwriting.

Personal photos can be uploaded from the sender’s computer and imported to a card. A QR code can insert a video into the card, which can be watched by scanning with a smartphone or entering the URL into an Internet browser.

Orders are processed the next business day and the company handles all printing, postage and mailing duties from its factory in Salt Lake City. It typically takes two to three business days for a card to arrive at its destination, Duran said.

Aside from sending individual cards, a contact manager on the site allows customers to send to multiple recipients at once. Although it’s the same card, Duran said, each one is automatically personalized for the recipient.

Professionals needing to send multiple cards to attract or retain customers typically benefit most from this bulk ordering, Duran said.

“It’s a time-saver,” Duran said. “It’s a great tool for business owners that have to send a lot of cards.”

Aside from cards, several different gifts can be sent as well using Send Out Cards. Brownies, chocolate candies, gift cards and gourmet foods are among the gift options. Depending upon gift size or quantity, additional time and postage may be required.

The cost of using the site for creating and sending greeting cards and gifts is based on a points system. The points are purchased in either a subscription package or on a pay-as-you-go basis, with price dependent upon which option is chosen.

A pay-as-you-go account requires customers to purchase at least 10 points at 99 cents each and pay a $5 expense amount fee.
