It’s Official! We’re Adopting A. . . . .

 . . .Baby Grand Piano!!!!

Yes, my friends!
That photo
is of a Baby Grand Piano
that was seeking a new home,
and .. . . well. . . . . . .
. . . .we are giving her one!!

While it may be true
that I post here on The Wyandotte Patch
as the piano teacher
at The Little Piano House,
it is also true
that in my other life
I am a church musician.

I am the music director
for Detroit’s St. Gabriel Church.
And this church
is adopting The Baby in the photo!

So,
why would I post
about what a Detroit church is doing
in the Wyandotte Patch?
Because this blog post
has to do with piano adoption.

Earlier this month
I posted here in The Patch
about electronic keyboards
vs real pianos.
While I won’t do a re-run of that post,
I will say this again:
There are pianos out there
that are available for free.
You just have to look for them.

OK.
Are you ready?
Here come the words
from the church musician persona:
“Seek and You Shall Find!”
Yes, people,
seek and you shall find.
There are pianos out there,
even right here in the Detroit metro area,
right here in Michigan,
that are available for free.
You simply need to pay
for moving fees
and, of course,tuning(s)
once she is in her new home.

Don’t be afraid
to look at pianos
listed on Craigslist.
I did.
Don’t be afraid
to visit pianos
listed on the piano adoption website.
I did.
And don’t be afraid
to ask people
if they know of anyone
giving a piano away.
I did.
All in all,
it took me less than 2 months
to find the piano in the photo.

It is true
that the piano in this photo
will need some minor work.
But a piano like this
is well worth it.

Permit me to make a comparison.
Let’s say. . .
someone is going to give you a car.
The car runs well,
is in very good condition
and has low miles.
Would you turn the gift of this car down
because it needed new tires?
Of course not!!!

It is similar with piano adoption.
The truth is,
pianos do sometimes require work
beyond tuning.
That’s not necessarily bad.
And just because a piano is out of tune,
that’s not necessarily bad either.
It may just mean
that she needs tuning.
Period.
That’s just normal piano upkeep.

. . I’ll be sure to let you all know
when The Baby arrives.. .
and maybe I’ll post some video
of me playing her
once she arrives.
She will need to be played quite a bit
in order to get acclimated
to her new home. . .

The piano in this photo
is being gifted to St. Gabriel Church in Detroit
from St. Louis Parish in Clinton Township.
The St. Louis community
was able to purchase another Baby Grand
for their church
and have graciously offered to give us this older baby.
Isn’t this beautiful?
A church of means
helping out a church
in the inner city.. . .
wow. . .I’m almost crying
as I enter these words
on to electronic parchment. . .

Thank you, so much,
for The Baby.
Merci Beaucoup.
(That’s French for“¡Muchas Gracias!)
