Wyandotte Police Confirm Identity of Body Recovered in Detroit River

Friends and family members of Thomas Daniel Lange are anxious to find out what happened, according one of Lange's close friends.

Wyandotte police confirmed suspicions Wednesday that the body recovered from the Detroit River on Aug. 15 is that of former Wyandotte resident Thomas Daniel Lange.

Chief Daniel Grant said examiners used dental records to positively identify remains that were underwater for more than nine years.

Lange's family reported him missing to the Lincoln Park Police Department in 2003 after he didn't come home following a brief stop at a grocery store to purchase diapers for his son, according to the National Missing Persons Data System

Grant said the investigation is ongoing. The cause of death was unknown Wednesday afternoon.

Mike Ouellette, 36, of Wyandotte, was once roommates with Lange. He said there are many friends and family members who are anxious to find out what happened to Lange.

"He was a really good guy," Ouellette said.

A representative of the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said a complete autopsy of the body could take several weeks.
